Who is Aurora James?

Aurora James is a designer turned activist. The founder of designer accessories brand Brother Vellies, a brand dedicated to keeping African artisanal practices alive and applying them to fashion, she is also the founder of the Fifteen Percent Pledge, a non-profit organization founded in 2020 dedicated to committing retailers to diversify their supplier relationships, and dedicate 15 percent (~ the percentage of the population identifying as Black) of their purchasing power to Black-owned businesses.

By holding big businesses and consumers accountable for redirecting their spending power to Black businesses, James hopes to help create opportunities for Black business owners, who are disproportionately underfunded and resourced, especially now, to succeed and generate wealth.
